Rules and Regulations |
Points System |
The current Winston Cup points system will be utilized.
Provisionals |
Each driver will be given 3 provisionals at the start of each half of the season that can be used if they cannot attend a race. We race two halves per season. Using a provisional will give you a last place finish, and last place points for that race. If there is more than one driver taking a provisional for the same race, points will be awarded according to their current points standings. Keep in mind, if you join Sort Racing after the 3rd race of either half of the season, you will not recieve provisional points for missing a race, because you will be too far out of the points race to make a difference. You will recieve 0 points. If you use all 3 of your provisionals up, you will be awarded 0 points for missing a race. Send all e-mails to WOOD. He will be keeping track of the provisionals during the season. IF YOU MISS 3 STRAIGHT RACES WITHOUT NOTIFYING WOOD YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE LEAGUE.
Each driver must submit they're car or cars file to WOOD with a car number that is not being used by another SORT Driver. WOOD will make sure you get all the current Sort car files, and keep everyone updated on any changes made. You can't change car numbers during either half of the season. You can only change car numbers before the start of a new season. |
Driving Rules |
Lapped cars must give way to other lead lap cars once the leader passes them. Lapped cars may not race the leader unless their car is capable of passing and pulling away from the leader. Any intentional wrecking of other drivers or on track feuds will not be tolerated.
Pace Car Procedures |
Keep your car in line and within a safe distance to the car in front of you. Do not lag behind there will be other cars that may need to pit.
Starts & Restarts |
If you are the leader of the race please keep up with the pace car and maintain a consistent speed. Keep your car in line, and within a safe distance. Do not break check the drivers behind you. No passing the cars directly in front of you on the start or restart of a race until you reach the backstretch, unless you are avoiding a wreck or there's 10 laps or less to go in the race.
Yellow Flags |
There is NO racing back to the start/finish line under yellow flag conditions, unless there are 10 laps or less left in the race. Use your autochat to signal to the drivers behind you of your intentions, and then back off the gas, and then pull to the high side of the track out of the racing groove to allow lap cars that are close enough to try to get a lap back. (Never slam on the brakes, just back off the gas, and pay attention to the car that's in front of you). If you are the leader of the race, Please don't stop completely on the track to allow cars to get a lap back. Just slow down enough to let the cars that's close enough to get there lap back safely. Sometimes circumstances don't allow lap cars to get a lap back. The leader of the race has the OPTION of allowing lap cars to get a lap or get back onto the lead lap under caution, but that's entirely up to him.
Pit Road Procedures |
Green Flag Conditions: Use your autochat at on the backstretch to signal the cars behind you! Pit access roads must be used for entrance and exits at tracks such as Las Vegas and Indy and any other track that has them (This usually means enter and exit on the backstretch). At tracks without pit access lanes you may enter the pits off of turn 4. You may not reenter the racing surface until the backstretch Entering the track too early or causing an accident by not staying off the racing surface until the backstretch will result in a penalty. Yellow Flag Conditions: Use your autochat at on the backstretch to signal the cars behind you! Pit access roads must be used for entrance and exits at tracks such as Las Vegas and Indy and any other track that has them (This usually means enter and exit on the backstretch). At tracks without pit access lanes you may enter the pits off of turn 4 and when exiting the pits you may go directly back on the track so that you may catch up to the pack and get back in line as quickly and safely as possible. Effective 2/9/02: When there's 10 laps or less to go in a race and the caution flag comes out, ALL cars that are a lap down or more MUST go down pit row when the pits open up.

In Race Chat |
Any in race chat will be limited to courtesy chat and autochat. There will no flaming tolerated during and or after the race. If you have an on-track problem with a driver, e-mail him, or if your situation is beyond that see the Protest section below.
Autochat Settings |
Drivers autochat settings can be customized to their own needs but here are the basic setting that everyone should utilize:
(Driver
Name) - Exiting Pit Pass High
(Driver
Name) - Warping Restart Needed
Connection Issues |
Each racer is responsible for their connection to the race server. If your connection is bad show consideration for the other drivers' and get off the track. If you are experiencing warping during the pace lap use your autochat to notify the race officials. If there are 6 or more drivers that show warp the race will be restarted.
Race Restarts |
We will qualify before every start and restart. No questions asked. If required we will restart a race at least 2 times. If the race does not get started before 10:00pm it will be considered a rainout and will be run on the next available open date.
Disconnection |
We will only restart the server just one time if a single driver lose's his connection. Some drivers don't want the server restarted for them, if you are one of them please let WOOD know ahead of time about your intentions. At the completion of the race you will receive last place finishing points, and no provisional will be needed. The server will only be restarted more than once if we lose more than a single driver on the 2nd restart of a race or we have major warp issues during the race. After you are disconnected from the server it will be reset for a 10-minute practice session and you will have that amount of time to reconnect to the server. If you are not able to reconnect to the server the race will be run and you will receive a free provisional, and provisional points for that race.
Warp |
If the finishing order is changed due to warp at the end of the race you may file a Race Protest.
On Track Incident |
We would rather see these incidents taken care of by e-mail interaction between the drivers' involved, due to the fact that most of the time these are just accidents and could be straightened out with a little communication between the drivers involved. If you feel that your problem cannot be solved that way then you may file a Race Protest.
Rules Violation |
The Race Officials cannot always see what is going on around the track so we are asking you to police yourselves. If you feel that a driver has gained an advantage during the race by cheating you may report the incident to an official by filing a Race Protest.
Filing a Protest |
Any driver may file a Race Protest with the race officials within 24 hours after completion of the race. To file protests you must email the race officials with a complete description of the rules offence and or warp with a replay that documents the problem conclusively. Take into consideration that if you falsely file a Race Protest or do not back up your protest with a conclusive replay you may be charged with a Official Warning.
